They've done a few of these before, and they have some serious machines. I think I remember one video featured a 1200HP LSX Firebird if I remember right. It was a perfect sleeper, since it looked like a piece of junk 90s Firebird.

Fox Bodies have lost their sleeper status now, given how frequent is is to see a 400HP one roaming the road.

Let the competition of size comparisons begin! Who is the biggest in the pants shall be decided by how fast his car is!

If it's mostly drag racing, then it can be done on the drag strip.

I personally think that modern chassis materials, better tires, EFI, higher peak RPMs, and turbos have basically caused proper chassis building to become a lost art. I think about old Gassers who put more money into a stiff suspension and body than they did an engine to get traction off the line. That's not to say that car doesn't have a serious suspension, but the 90s F-bodies weren't exactly known for being very stiff. Or 90s anything (outside of a Type R or Skyline chassis), for that matter.

Still, I wonder how much power is actually lost from chassis flex, and how much traction too. When you're in the 1000+ HP range in a car that small, it's probably close to 2-8%, if you think about how much power it takes to actually consistently warp and push down on all that chassis and suspension components.

If street racing brought a better crowd, I might go to spectate. A big maybe though REALLY BIG. . . as is though.

It's a reverse sleeper! It looks suspiciously like a sleeper car, so people suspect that it's got a big, powerful engine!

My god, that is like a bad episode of Pinks! It's not too much of a surprise that the Lamborghini owners are giant douches as well. I do applaud them for forcing 1000 ponies out of their raging hemorrhoidal bulls though.

Young guy in an evo with ~$35 grand in the motor trying to upset exotics. . . (note: that is just an estimate not based on any knowledge of that build) Really its probably $100,000 evo going up against galardo's with the underground racing turbo's on them. Old rich guy's trying to put a young guy in his place. It is funny because they are no better than the shitty ricers that argue about the same shit but with civics. . . I guess they really are 2fast2furious. . .

I've learned that its impossible to expect people to show up, the only way to draw a better crowd is to create a better crowd, or have better friends.

But that being said... more 1000+ HP cars in the world would be a service to jalop-kind.

Some people relax by taking drugs, some people relax by watching a good movie, and some people relax by not working hard during the day.

And then, some people relax by passing back and forth friendly insults, and then driving as fast as possible to back them up. Street racing culture is as important and fun to the racers as the actual cars, and it can be a more positive and supportive group to be involved with than most other hobbies. It's still dangerous, but that's the point.

Actually, drag racing on the street is considerably different than the strip. It's in the subtle things:

1. Surface: Track roads are usually kept clean and washed regularly. Street roads can be full of shit and dirt, and if you run racing slicks, you can actually lose grip. If I ever street raced, I would bring a bucket of water and wash down my side of the drag strip before calling up and organizing a race (not that I ever did that). By the time they arrived, the water had dried up and soaked into the asphalt, making it a little stickier and a lot cleaner. If they tried to do the same thing, they wouldn't have time before the race to let it dry, so they'd end up spinning on the water.

Like Keichii Tsuchia said (I paraphrase) speed is one thing, but knowing the terrain is a whole different affair.

2. Appearance: On the street, it is a cat-and-mouse game of both causing a person to put more money on the race by convincing them they can win (by hiding how much power you have) but also being aware that they may be bluffing too and not appearing as if you are grifting them. It's like poker, except that if you win (but push it too hard) you could cost yourself more money than you win by damaging your engine. There's no point in throwing a rod but winning a $3000 race.

Whereas on a drag strip, everyone saw your E.T.s, they know what class you're in, and it's a kiddy pool designed to make everyone on "equal footing" by delaying starts and having tightening regulations.

A good street racer, and I mean really special, never pushes his car over 90% of its threshold, and never loses. To truly beat another car you need to be able to do it without risking your life or your vehicle.

3. Hills. Uphill and downhill sections of a drag race can make a significant difference. If I drag raced at all you might say I took a mustang against an Eclipse turbo that had quite a bit better power/weight ratio (or I would guess by looking at it's performance) but once we hit an uphill section he fell behind due to the weight being pulled off the front wheels, and the lower torque. I mean, that's if I ever raced one, that would probably happen.

4. Rolling starts. These are getting really popular because of the increased wear on the engines and drivetrain that a launch would cause, the advantage of N/A over turbos, and the reduction in tire costs or needs for burnouts. It also balances out the advantages of a 4WD launch VS a RWD car. I think it's a way to give people who don't have as much money, time, or knowledge a leg up on people who take care of optimizing their launch.

Not advocating street racing, but there are a lot of really cool factors in it that most people completely ignore, thinking that it's the same as a drag strip.

They could do it at a drag strip, but there's a whole different set of rules to the game. That's like watching someone playing and suggesting that they go play Monopoly, because it's also a board game.

True, the same squabbling goes down at the race track as well. I don't know, fast cars are fast, and I can't say that I wouldn't be hammering the hell out of the throttle on any of those cars. It still doesn't change the fact that they sound like whiny little shit talking brats.

Yeah, I couldn't stand people like that, but they're fun on a good day.

The scary street racers though, are the ones who are quiet and never have to really try to win.

That's a pretty unique suspension setup. It looks to me like they lightened up everything up front and possibly even removed shocks or put in some specially made ones to try and balance the weight over the rear tires, the transmission gearing and throttle control must be spot-on to prevent any wheelspin that would cause it to bounce or dip back down. That's some serious skill.

Damn cool video!
